1,Thinking and reasons of beginning

Every time that I go to Bowenville which is such good environment that always let me feel comfortable and satisfied. And it is really impress me which is a very good harmony environment between people and nature, so I am going to put my work on the theme of environment protection. First of all, I am sure that I will present my works in collage‘s way which can be got a lot of Bowenville. On the other hand, I am interested in digital art so that I am starting my work at the beginning of searching photo of Bowenville.

                                                

 

 

 

2,Wide-range initial searching about good examples  

At the beginning of researching that is really wide range what I need to do. I have been searching a lot of works in the theme of environmental protection about mostly every kind of works which includes graphic design, layout design and digital art and so on. But such a wide range of information searching that is great to help me to enlarge the creative thinking at the beginning of process which is really good for the next step of work. At this stage that I have learnt is：it is a such good way to progress you work by more and more searching variety of work about the theme you want to do instead of limit in a small field.

 

 

 3,One book that offers imagination to me  

Then I continue searching a lot of information that I found a really good book called: “The Age of Collage”. It is foreword by Silke Krohn that collects abundant masterpieces of collage around the world. Particularly, I have found someone’s works that really impresses me and I will present as below which offers some fantastic imagination to me for my works’ process.

 

As p77, work from Max-O-Matic who based in Barcelona since 2002 and he describes his work as “trying to create an imaginary world from torn piece of the real one”. And this kind of work likes the combination of collage and digital fusion.

   

As p73, works from Nicholas Lockyer who initially used collage in the development of three-dimensional work, but soon “realize” that the process of using collage was far more exciting than the final piece” with a background in sculpture.

 

                            

As p69, works from Jesse Treece who is Seattle-based artist Jesse Treece recycles images from vintage books and magazines into lyrical compositions that often give everyday scenes a fantastical or absurdist bent.

4,Thinking trying the initial design

As this age I need to do more attempt in the design to choose the appropriate material combination to my work. I think I need to start from the works that I have best feeling.

 

5,The procedure and details of each works’ making

 

1,First of all, I am intending to process the theme of lion which mainly express is a kind of lively feeling. The biggest problem in the procedure is how to indicate the thing I want to express or have a better way to express. Probably this is the first time making collage that I have not catch the way and techniques of this. Also it is different techniques and requirement that different with digital art or matte painting so that I still need lot of time to find more reference in strong feeling of combination.

 

 

 

 

At the beginning of time it looked drab and the picture lacks sparkle of attention. Probably it is bad about combination between materials and also it is not good enough for express meaning. Actually, all of these problems are included by the techniques of collage. Then, I go to find the lion’s material pictures first that makes sure the big shape for this and adding different materials by each different part of it afterwards. Gradually, I just find the feeling of process back and back to the theme that I want, which it can be express the right feeling in the end.


2,The theme at next is about elephant which express protecting animal’s home is as important as protecting ours. In the procedure in this piece of work I want to make a really full of collage’s feeling. Then, after I looked though these kinds of collage research that I found out the reference of these collage is not that difficult, but the connection of each materials and effect is such that strong and creative which is the point of making a good collage. Beside, the deep meaning inside that is also the other point of collage. So, for now, I understand what I structure I need to focus on that I can get to next step. I don’t need to close every detail of elephant but just close mostly at the big shape and indicate the clear sense that is. Such as the great reference at P111 works from Joe Castro who is a collage artist, musican, oil painter and graphic designer. His style was very loose, raw and intense.  
 

With the constantly try, I found the law under making the collage: Finding the feature of what I want to make firstly. Then after the research I need to discover some place that can be inserted and combined perfectly of these elements. It is also the significant point of great combination and well expression at the same time. And likewise, I need to consider the direction of light in each different elements that I choose and make them correct.

 

Finally, after I solved out all of these problems what I made is just looking good. It is my favorite works in this series after I finished all of them.

3,Next theme of work is the Whale that mainly expresses every creature has their own space to live, so we need to respect each other that can reach the natural harmony and unify. At the time of process I kept thinking what kind of carrier that can fit on the feature of whale and also have the best effect. At the beginning I just think use dark blue color to fill out whale’s body. But afterwards, I feel the whale is flying in the sly so why I do not u just use the cloud directly? So then I step into the procedure of whale.

 

 

I have searched lots of picture of whale to keep the shape of I cut. And during the time that I process that I just find out the vertical structure will be better than the horizontal one with a whim. Because this kind the structure can highlight a space and indicate the concomitant space of building and whale. Afterwards, I add the cloud between building and whale that has two functions: 1 this is the division of reality (normal building and cloud) and the wonderland (the whale on the cloud). 2 highlight the effect of entire picture and cooperate with whole composition. Under the cloud I purposely make the building more dignified which can compare with the whale that is more vivid and falsified. The building under the cloud is more real quality and the whale upon the cloud is more soft feeling that expresses a feeling of fairground. So the upper falsified cloud can be a good transition to the whales.  

 

4,Then, it is the work called Impression that mainly comes from the shape of animal that left the impression to people, which is still can tell what animal it is even if there were no marked the details on it. And using people’s house, activities and society inside that express human, animal and nature itself are a whole body.

 

 

 

5,The last one: Splendid Attire that comes from the creative composition of animal and plants which have also a good example supports me.

P228, Kent Rogowski makes puzzle pieces depicting flowers and skies, sourced from more than 60 store-bought puzzles, titled “love=Love”.

The concept from here that express that clothes is a cover for human. We use this concept to these thinking is those flowers and plants are being the clothes for that animals which is the necessary protection.   

 

6,Description of production:

1 Name: Fairground. Expression: I want to express a feeling of combination with serious and vitality with each other. The cloud below is human’s house that dignified and orderliness. And upon the cloud is the happy place for whales where full of freedom and harmony. This kind of composition indicates every creature has their own space to live, so we need to respect each other that can reach the natural harmony and unify.

 

2 Name: Alive. Expression: this is what I want to express a feeling full of vigor and vitality so that I used the rich color to present it. Implied we need to protect what around us because those could be a place for lion (or other animals) growth and freedom.

 

3Name: Home. Expression: First of all I mixed houses and a train to be a general shape of elephant, which also indicate human’s house is that strange and terrible in elephant’s cognitive. This elephant’s mind is full of human’s civilization. And its nose is holding a bunch of plants that is a symbol of it still won’t give up looking for the home. Elephant’s are just as important as ours.

 

4Name: Impression. Expression: Base on the human’s activities and society to establish the shape of animals. Meaning is we are in the same earth that we need to depend on each other to build up this nature.

 

 

5Name: Splendid Attire. Expression: Two animals wear well dress. The concept from here that express that clothes is a cover for human. We use this concept to these thinking is those flowers and plants are being the clothes for that animals which is the necessary protection.
